Quaker Special Risk
The project included work on the historically significant property at 51 Harvard Street (former Whitcomb Hall, constructed in 1879) and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building was previously extensively rehabilitated by our Client and now serves as their offices. Our Client desired to create additional parking for employees and clients by razing a building on an abutting property off Lancaster Street. The two properties are separated by a 7-foot high retaining wall. GEI was retained to provide topographic survey, design and permitting services. The project included the following:
• Prepared design drawings for the demolition of the existing building on Lancaster Street and redevelopment into a parking lot.
• Design site features, landscaping and lighting to reflect the historic nature of the abutting property at 51 Harvard Street including granite staircase with decorative railings.
• Provide new drainage infrastructure for the parking lot to connect to City drainage.
• Provide a new downspout collection system and drywell for the building at 51 Harvard Street to remedy a drainage and icing problem at the entrance.
• Reconfigure the existing parking lot at 51 Harvard St. to provide a handicap accessible parking space and aisle.
• Permit the project through the Planning Board.
