Kettlebrook Lofts Pump Station
This circa 1860 pump station was formerly used to pump dyeing mill wastewater to the Worcester sewer system. The pumps and wetwell were too large for the volume of wastewater to be generated from the conversion of the dyeing mill to loft apartments. Graves Engineering, Inc. (GEI) devised a plan to utilize the existing pump station as a generator building for a new submersible grinder pump station adjacent to the existing pump station. GEI provided engineering design, bid phase, and construction administration and periodic inspection services. The project consisted of the following:
• 4-foot diameter pre-cast concrete wetwell with duplex 30 GPM, 6 HP variable speed driven submersible grinder pumps.
• 4-foot square pre-cast concrete valve chamber.
• 26 kW Generator Set and 100 gallon capacity double wall diesel fuel tank.
• Building renovations including new windows, doors, and louvers, roof replacement, interior and exterior lighting, electric service entrance, cleaning and re-pointing exterior brick, and filling the existing wetwell with controlled density fill.
